The free festival offers Latin dance, music, food, workshops for children and a full day of activities for the entire family.
"Cinco de Mayo in Washington is a chance for everyone to celebrate the many contributions of Latinos to the United States," said Maru Montero, the Festival founder and organizer. "As we say, 'On Cinco de Mayo, everybody's Latino!'"
The Cinco de Mayo Festival features Mexican folk dances and other Latin dances performed by the Maru Montero Dance Company, salsa dancers, traditional mariachi music and other musical and dance groups.
Children can make their own piñatas, braid hair, build dancing puppets and do other crafts. They can also play "Loteria" (Mexican bingo) for a chance to win Festival prizes.
Mexican cowboys and cowgirls, or charros, wear authentic costumes and ride horses in a corral near the main stage.
Authentic Latin American food, including tacos and roast chicken, will be served.
"Cinco de Mayo started as a Mexican holiday, but we've turned it into a celebration for people from all over Latin America - and for the non-Latinos who love the culture, too," Montero said. "This is a fun day to relax with the family, listen to music, dance a little and enjoy life."
